Campus Centre Balconies

Work area: 10m2

Project value: $160k

Project commencement: June 2022

Project completion: July 2022

The project involved activation of two balconies located on the south side of the Campus Centre Building. The design response was to stimulate areas for small student meetings and lunch time gatherings by providing a vibrant environment similar to a rooftop bar.

The scope of works involved a custom fabricated arbor structure, inspired by the contemporary greening of rooftop bars. The structure featured tensile architecture in the form of stainless steel cables, serving a dual purpose - as a functional balustrade and arbor.

Programmable LED feature lights mounted to the structure facilitates use at night- responding to Safer By Design Principles. Custom upright planter beds doubled up as bar tables and GRC planters and picnic tables provided a welcoming space for students and faculty alike.
